煎茶の道具には古くから、錫（すず）製のものが多く使われています。

茶葉は栄西が中国から持ち帰り、日本で栽培されるようになったと伝説的に言われていますが詳しいことは判りません。その後、貴族社会では「闘茶（とうちゃ）」はじめ喫茶が大流行したようです。

このころの喫茶法は、禅僧「南浦明(なんぽじょうみょう)」によって、錫の茶托、茶入れを含む道具類とともに中国から伝えられたとされています。すなわち、1270年前後（文永年間・鎌倉時代）のころから、喫茶に錫の道具類が使われていたと推測します。

写真の茶入れは、「一双式（いっそうしき）」と呼ばれる一風変ったもの。形はいくつか製作していますが、2種類の茶葉を飲み比べる際に用います。

How to Enjoy Tea

Since long ago, pewter utensils have often been used for sencha.

It has been said that tea leaves were brought to Japan from China by Eisai, and then began to be cultivated here but there are no definite details. After this, the practice of tea drinking as well as To-cha”(A game where people compete by identifying different tastes of tea) became extremely popular among the upper class.

Recently it is claimed that tea drinking practices, along with the pewter tea saucer and tea container, were brought from China by a Zen priest named “Nanpojyomyo.” We estimate that pewter tea utensils were being used since around the year 1270.

The tea container in this photo is an unusual one, called “Issoushiki”(Pair). Although we make a few different shapes, they are made so that one can compare the taste of 2 different tea leaves.
