The obi-dome was a functional accessory used to fasten the obi-jime , the belt around a kimono. It has become purely a decorative accessory these days. In many cases, only the metal fittings are made afterwards on items made of jewelry or pottery and made into an Obi-dome.
This Obi-dome’s main part is made of crystal, so the metal fittings were need to be made in such a way that they do not show when viewed from the front. The transparent hemispherical band clip is fixed with a prong, and the metal fittings through which the obi is threaded are as thin as possible, so that they are not visible.
