Seikado offers repair and maintenance services for a variety of metalworking items.
Among them are special orders, such as “to give to my daughter on her wedding day” or “to congratulate my apprentice on his independence,” in which we re-color vessels that have already been used for a long time.
When we take the time and effort to repair the vessels, such as by removing minor scratches from use and recoloring them, they look beautiful and different. The ‘Furubi, antique color’ and ‘Sabi, beauty revealed through time’ of a long-used piece of metalwork are also unique qualities, but in special cases such as the above example, we recommend re-coloring.
We sometimes work on the re-coloring of the Kensui, a waste-water container that is a type of tea ceremony utensil.
The photo above shows a Kensui by Jyoueki, a member of the Senke Jissoku.
(Senke’s ten designated craftsmen families. Senke is a school of tea ceremony.)
It is one of the representative Kensui of the Jyoueki, called ‘Kikuwari Kensui‘, chrysanthemum flower shape. We took the old one from the customer and maintained and repaired it. We removed the corrosion and water stains that had appeared in some places on the surface, and boiled it with special chemicals to re-colour it a beautiful yellow color.
The amazing thing about this ‘Jyoueki’s Kikuwari Kensui‘ is that even though it must have been made by a number of different craftsmen over the years, they are virtually the same. At all times, those Kensui seem to have been manufactured very precisely according to a blueprint.
Regarding Repair of Metalcraft
We offer repair and maintenance services for metal crafts regardless of whether they are made in the East or West. The care and repair of damaged metal crafts is just as important to us as the manufacture of our products. Repairs are difficult to determine without seeing the item in person. Therefore, please bring or send the repaired item to us for consultation. Please refer to “Regarding Repair of Metalcraft”, for more detail.
*Regarding the repair of other companies’ products:
We believe that metal products have a longer lifespan than other materials, and therefore, manufacturers are responsible for the repair of their products. Also, manufacturers are more familiar with the materials and techniques used, so their labor costs are often lower than ours. If the manufacturer or distributor is still in existence, please contact them first for repair.
