Learn from the Old, Know the New. Restoration of Japanese Accessories

2006.09.02 Custom Order

We have an opportunity to help unite and foster the next generation of craftsmen of traditional metal crafts scattered throughout Kyoto.

The project introduced here is the production and restoration of small items related to traditional Japanese clothing. There are a wide variety of small metal craft items for Kimono. Starting with Kanzashi (ornamental hairpin) and Obidome (sash clip), there are also Sagemono (ornamental charm strap ), Kougai (ornamental hair stick), Hakoseko (Makeup case), ・・・・, and many others. We are now working to revive and pass on lost or dying techniques.

The photo is “Birabira Kanzashi“. You may have seen a maiko wearing it.

*This Kanzashi is named “Kikusui” (chrysanthemum water) made by Kagose. It is very artfully crafted.
