Bronze Yatate, Calligraphy Brush Case. The craftsman is unknown. It is a portable stationery for carrying a brush and ink. It had been used for many years, and the good taste of bronze was oozing out. The hinge of the silver lid is twisted off after years of use.

The hinge is composed of two intricate plates and a rod. It is surprisingly difficult to make it out of soft silver because of the strong force exerted partly. In addition, despite the simplicity of its appearance, the forming process to make the hinge plate fit perfectly on the curved surface is also a difficult part.

The hinge that has been twisted off due to metal fatigue cannot be reused. In this case, the rod was also broken, so it was replaced, and one of the hinge plates was replaced with a new one.
